Our Available Offerings

Wood Turning

We have a variety of wood lathes for both large and small projects.

Wood turning is a special subset of woodworking and can be remarkably satisfying. Using special chisels and equipment you can turn wood into generally circular or cylindrical objects. Some of the items can be small like pens and chess pieces. Medium size items include bowls, spindles and lamp bases. Some have even made porch posts using the lathes at the Foundry.

  • Jet 5t 6″x15″
  • Wood Turning Chisels
  • Sandpaper
  • Pen Turning Kits

CNC

CNC (Computer Numerical Control) is the marriage of computers to conventional machine tools; lathes, mills, etc. Coupled with our CAD/CAM lab, they give you the capability to produce shapes and features far beyond the ability of ordinary machine tools. Our experienced staff can show you how to program, set up and run the amazing machines.

Available CNC Machines:

  • Prototrac Vertical Mill
  • Ganesh Horizontal Lathe
  • X-Carve Wood Router
  • Small high precision mill
  • Precision Measuring Tools
  • Forest Tech Wood Lathe

Laser Cutting

There are two Laser Engravers/Cutters at the Foundry. Both can engrave images onto organic materials like wood and paper and can cut clear through those same materials as needed. There are limits of course, but engraving text or artistic images is wonderfully satisfying. Any Vector or SVG file can drive the Laser, or imaging can be designed using Corel Draw on our workstation. These lasers will not operate on metals but may be used to prove your ideas before sending to a commercial metal cutting laser. Both lasers are used a lot for a great variety of projects.

Available Laser Cutters:

  • GCC X500III Large Bed Laser
  • GCC Small Bed Laser

Laser Engraving

Our Laser Engravers can engrave text and artwork on a surprising number of materials; wood, glass, leather, and many more. The design possibilites are endless.

Engraving an image onto something is remarkably satisfying surprisingly easy. Many new members find that laser engraving is a great first project. We have helped with engraving onto wood, plastic and even glass. You can import images, add text, or build your own artwork.

Laser Engraving Equipment:

  • GCC small bed (24″x18″ working area)
  • GCC X500III (36″x24″ working area)

Electronics

Sometimes electronics come in very handy. The Foundry has its own well equipped electronics room.

The Electronics Lab is a special place at the Foundry. We have almost all of the equipment you will need for your projects including oscilloscopes, power supplies, waveform generators, gadgets and of course digital voltmeters. You can solder with the best of them and inspect your work with a pro magnifying station. We have a shocking (pun intended) amount of components and tools. There are Arduino and Raspberry Pi items too. We have stepper motors, controllers and gearboxes. Come build your invention!

Electronics Equipment:

  • Oscilloscopes
  • Power Generators
  • Voltmeters
  • Project Boards Arduino etc.
  • Soldering Stations

CAD Design and Engineering

The Foundry has computer workstations loaded with professional design software, as well as ample experience to assist newer designers and engineers.

The members and staff at the Foundry have a huge variety of skill sets. Some of those skills include engineering, machine control and computer aided design skills. That doesn’t mean that we will do all the work for you, but we can probably help! We’re familiar with a decent number of software packages and can help steer you in the right direction. We also have a good number of connections to other vendors or experts.

Design Software used at The Foundry:

  • Autodesk – AutoCad
  • Mastercam
  • Autodesk – Fusion 360
  • Corel Draw
  • Corel PaintShop Pro
  • Koyo Click PLC programming
  • Arduino Programming

Metal Fabrication

The Foundy’s lower floor is a fully equipped metalworking shop featuring mig, stick and wire welding, cutting, bending tools and more.

The Metal Fabrication shop is an absolute wonderland for those interested in sheet metal, welding, cutting and grinding. This space can be used to develop machinery, build metal art, or perform practical repairs. We provide the training in safety and novice level welding instruction.

Metal Fabrication Equipment:

  • Power Shears (to 18 ga)
  • Box Brakes (to 18 ga)
  • Welders – Stick – MIG – TIG – Gas
  • Saws
  • Grinders

Woodworking

Working wood at the Foundry is one of the most popular and accessible activities. There are woodworking hand tools of nearly every description. If that’s not enough, there are plenty of powered tools like power drills and saws. If your projects are more involved, there are all the large and heavy machines like table saws, band saws, chop saws, wood lathes and even a mortising machine (for square holes). Since safety is a paramount concern, you will be trained in the safe use of all the equipment you wish to use. You will generally be responsible for supplying your own materials, but we do have a surprising amount here that may be available.

Woodworking Equipment:

  • SawStop Table Saw
  • Thickness Planers
  • Jointers
  • Chop Saws
  • X-Carve CNC Router
  • Drum Sanders

  • Spindle Sanders

Machining

The Foundry is has a variety of professional machining tools. Many of these are not available in most home shops and can greatly improve your results.

Machining, the art and science of sculpting finished parts from raw materials using machine tools, often remains one of the least understood of the Maker skills. The Foundry staff can help remove the mystery and show you how to safely set up and operate our lathes, milling machines and grinders. Sometimes from here members go on to develop skills in Computer Numerical Control so the machine does much of the work itself.
